How to Replace a Horn in a Dodge Durango

The Dodge Durango is a full-size Sport Utility Vehicle that debuted in 1998. It is closely related to the Dakota and Chrysler Aspen. Many Dodge Durango enthusiasts are dissatisfied with the sound of the original equipment manufacturers horn and choose to replace it. You'll need only a few tools to complete this relatively straightforward task.

Buy a horn kit. The Dodge Durango has one low tone and one high tone horn so a direct factory replacement kit should come with two horns. If you are only replacing one horn, make sure the new horn has the correct tone.

Locate the original manufacturer's horns. The Dodge Durango horns should both be located between the grill and inner fender on the driver's side. One horn is a low tone and the other one is a high tone.

Disconnect the power connector from the horns, take out the mounting bolt with a socket wrench and remove the original horns. Most aftermarket horn kits use two horns so you should be able to use the original mounting location. Find a sturdy location with minimal vibration to mount nonstandard horns.

Plug the old wiring harnesses into the new horns if they are compatible to retain the factory wiring. Some aftermarket horn kits may include a custom wiring harness that you will need to connect to the original wiring using a wire/crimper splitter.

Test the new horns to ensure they both work. Be aware that aftermarket horns that use a compressor will be extremely loud.
