The anti-lock braking system (ABS) controller of the Cadillac Escalade prevents the brakes from locking during an emergency stop. The ABS controller reduces the braking force to any wheel that is rotating significantly more slowly than the others. If the ABS warning light comes on, you may need to replace the ABS, although this does not necessarily make your vehicle unsafe to drive.

Instructions

    1

Determine which ABS controller your Cadillac Escalade will need. You'll want to be sure the new controller is compatible with the make and model of your Escalade. All versions of the Escalade have been equipped with ABS since its debut in 1999.

    2

Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Unfasten the four T-25 TORX screws that mount the ABS controller to the brake pressure modulator valve with a socket wrench.

    3

Separate the ABS controller from the brake pressure modulator valve without using excessive force that could damage the ABS controller. Unplug the four electrical connectors from the ABS controller. This will allow you to completely detach the ABS controller from the modulator valve.

    4

Install the ABS controller onto the modulator valve. Plug the four electrical connectors into the ABS controller and be sure to use four new T-25 TORX screws to mount the ABS controller to the modulator valve. Use a torque wrench to tighten the TORX screws to 39 inch lbs. by proceeding in an X pattern. Connect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench.

    5

Use a scan tool to calibrate the tires and check the ABS for proper operation. The ABS lights should not come on at any time while your vehicle is running.
