Auto Body Working Tools

When an automobile gets into a bad wreck and serious damage to the car's body has occurred, it is very important to take the car into an auto body repair shop immediately. In order to ensure that the car is restored to its former condition, an auto body repairman will use various auto body tools, such as an electric chop saw, which cuts into a car's fender in order to replace a damaged section.

Body Straightener

Constructed of a very thick and heavy steel, the body straightener tool is used by auto body repairmen when sections of an auto's body needs to be bent back into shape. The tool is equipped with a overhead boom-pulley mechanism that hooks onto the car's body section; the repairman uses the tool's two hooks to secure the body section into place. As the repairman pulls the pulley mechanism with the right amount of pressure, the tool bends the body section into its proper shape.

Fiberglass-Reinforced Body Filler

Used to help repair sections of an automobile's fiberglass body parts by filling it with synthetic material, the fiberglass-reinforced body filler tool consists of a blue cream hardening type of putty. Contained in a metal can, this body filler putty is placed into a car's bumper or any other fiberglass section of the car that contains a hole or crack. After the hole is filled correctly, the repairman can then paint over the now hardened fiberglass reinforced body filler putty.

Cross Chisel Hammer

After an auto body repairman has completed the task of adding caulking or any other type of molding to an automobile's body, the repairman will use a cross chisel hammer in order to secure the molding into place. Usually containing a 3-inch-long chisel section that is equipped with a flat surface for precision hammering, this tool also contains a rubber-grip handle as well.

Chop Saw

Equipped with a very sharp and serrated 14-inch round blade, the chop saw is an auto body tool that is used to cut into a car's body in order to remove unwanted crumpled-up fiberglass and metal sections from a wrecked car. Powered by an electric motor, the chop saw tool cuts through thick sections of plastic and larger sections of light metal very accurately. This enables the tool to make precision cuts into the car's body in order to complete the repair job without damaging other parts of the automobile's body.
