The name Dodge Ram applies to both a line of pickups and a full size van. If you have some mechanical skill and want to save money, you can replace the fan in your Dodge Ram. These steps apply to the Dodge 1500 series pickup trucks with a mechanical belt driven fan.

Instructions

    1

Lift and secure your Doge Ram with a jack and jack stand or ramp.

    2

Disconnect the negative battery cable before proceeding, and if necessary, remove all drive belts.

    3

Unfasten the bolts and remove the fan shroud. It may be necessary to remove the radiator to provide access to the fan. If so, open the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator and drain the coolant into a resealable container before removing the radiator.

    4

Loosen the bolts on the fan-to-fluid coupling and take out the fan. You may also need to remove the coupling. If so, unhook the coupling from the water pump pulley.

    5

Install the new fan on the coupling and tighten the bolts securely according to specifications. Replace the radiator if it was removed.

    6

Reinstall the fan shroud and any drive belts that were removed, and tighten them evenly according to specifications.

    7

Check to make sure the engine coolant is at the proper level and start the engine to be sure the fan is working correctly.
