How to Remove the Rear Bumper From a 1991 S10 Truck

The rear bumper on the Chevrolet S10 is often removed to facilitate the installation of a custom unit. The bumper could also be removed, if damaged, to be replaced with a new one. The Chevrolet S10 and the GMC S15 share bumper mounting configurations. Never operate your vehicle without the rear bumper in place; it's designed for your protection, in the event of a rear impact.

Instructions

    1

Place jack stands or blocks under bumper to support it.

    2

Disconnect the license plate lamp harness by pulling it apart. If a trailer plug is installed, unplug this also.

    3

Loosen the bumper mounting bolts slightly by turning them counterclockwise with a socket. Some S10 trucks use retainers behind the license plate that must be removed to access the bumper fascia. If applicable, remove the bumper fascia by turning the bolts counterclockwise with the socket.

    4

Remove the bumper mounting bolts completely while being certain that the weight of the bumper is supported.by the jack stands or blocks.
