How to Fill Out Auto Body Repair Orders

Repairing damage to your car requires two separate processes to return your car to its original condition. One is the mechanical repair process, which includes work, such as repairing and replacing parts of the engine, electrical system and braking system. The other process is the body repair process, which involves repairing or replacing body parts, such as side panels, doors, trunks and hoods. Requirements for and regulations on auto body repair work vary from state to state. In all cases, when you, your mechanic or your body shop representative fill out auto body repair orders, the orders must include specific information.

Instructions

    1

Fill in information about the damaged vehicle. Specify the vehicle's year, make and model, mileage and license plate number.

    2

Enter information about the vehicle's owner, including the name, address and telephone number.

    3

Write in insurance information, if applicable. Include the name of the insurance provider, the associated claim number, the deductible, and the name and telephone number of the insurance adjuster.

    4

Fill in separately each of the parts required for the repair. Specify in each case whether the part is to be new, re-manufactured, or whether the part is the original part from the vehicle and is being repaired. List the purchase cost for new and re-manufactured parts.

    5

Enter labor costs for preparing and installing each new and re-manufactured part. List the cost of painting the parts separately.

    6

Write in labor costs for repairing and installing any of the vehicle's original parts that will be reused in the repair. Again, list the cost of painting the parts separately.

    7

Fill in the costs of towing and storing the vehicle, if applicable.

    8

Total all the costs and write in the subtotal. Fill in the applicable tax and the final total. Review the information in the form to confirm that it is accurate to complete the process.
