How to Remove the Tail Light Lens in a 2001 Honda Civic

The tail lights on a 2001 Honda Civic provide indications to the driver behind you when you're stopping, turning or backing up. These tail lights sometimes get damaged in an accident and will need replacement; also, you may want to replace the tail lights with custom models. In either case, the first thing you have to do is remove the old tail lights, a task that should take about 15 minutes to complete.

Instructions

    1

Open the trunk of the car. Locate the Phillips-head plastic screw that secures the carpeting to the trunk. Remove this screw, using the Phillips-head screwdriver, then pull the carpeting back.

    2

Twist the light bulbs out of the taillight housing, using your hands. Set them down carefully on the trunk floor, so that the bulbs don't get damaged.

    3

Hold the tail light with one hand, then unscrew the tail light from the car, using the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Pull the lens off the car and away from the vehicle.
