The Chevy Cobalt's ABS relay is contained within the ABS brake system control module. The Cobalt's construction allows the ABS relay to be accessed without too much trouble. Of course, the proper Chevy Cobalt ABS relay from Chevrolet should be installed in the Cobalt to prevent damage to the braking system.

Instructions

    1

Switch off the ignition and disconnect the negative cable on the Cobalt's battery.

    2

Clean the area around the part to be replaced--the electronic brake control module (EBCM) which is connected to the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV). Carefully remove any foreign objects and accumulated dirt from the area.

    3

Remove the retaining bolts holding the EBCM to the BPMV. Set these aside and disconnect the EBCM's electrical connector. When re-installing the EBCM do not over apply pressure when re-connecting these electrical connectors, as they tend to snap off if pressed too strenuously.

    4

Remove the EBCM from the BPMV by gently pulling them apart. Get a good grip before pulling them apart; you may have to use a bit of gentle pressure.

    5

Use a little denatured alcohol to wipe down the area where the EBCM and BPMV attach to one another. Do this methodically with a clean towel before carefully seating the BPMV seal into the groove on the surface of the replacement EBCM. The new EBCM should slide right on to the BPMV.

    6

Reconnect the EBCM's electrical connector before reinstalling the retaining bolts and tightening them to the manufacturer's specifications.

    7

Reconnect the battery and program the EBCM.
