Many families like sport utility vehicles and the Jeep Grand Cherokee falls into that category. Production started in 1993 and continues today. Keeping your Jeep's windshield clean helps you see better for a safer trip with your family. Using your windshield washer fluid helps you do this, but sometimes leaks occur in the reservoir and you may need to replace it.

Instructions

    1

Find the part number for your windshield washer reservoir. The part number depends on the year of your Jeep Grand Cherokee. Get the part by either ordering it from the dealer or online or getting it from a salvage yard.

    2

Put the SUV in park and turn it off. Don't forget to remove the keys. While still in the driver's seat, reach under the instrument panel--on your left side--and pull the hood release.

    3

Go to the front of your Jeep Grand Cherokee and locate the auxiliary release, which is in the center of the hood. Pull on the latch to open the hood enough for you to raise it until the hydraulic lift kicks in and opens it fully.

    4

Locate the windshield washer reservoir. In the Jeep Grand Cherokee, it's in the front of the engine compartment on the passenger side.

    5

Disconnect the negative cable on the battery. If your SUV comes with air bags, wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the battery cable before continuing.

    6

Remove the front splash shield to get to the windshield washer reservoir by using a screwdriver and a 10mm socket wrench to unscrew the three tapping screws, the two 10mm bolts and the five clips with screws. Next, pull the shield out a little so you can take out the rubber plug. You should then be able to take off the splash shield.

    7

Undo all the leads to the reservoir, including any hoses, guide wires and mounting bolts. Free the air box by taking off the top cover--unscrew the screws or clips, whichever is holding it in place. Next, take out the air filter and undo the three 10mm nuts in the bottom of the air box. Finally, disconnect the hoses and slide the air box out.

    8

Unscrew the two screws that hold the reservoir against the inner fender. After that, simply lift the windshield washer reservoir out. Throw away the seals--you'll need to replace these when you install the new reservoir.

    9

Reassemble your Jeep Grand Cherokee by putting the new windshield washer reservoir in your SUV by screwing it into place, replacing the air box and mounting bolts and attaching the hoses and any other leads by reversing the process from Step 7.

    10

Put the front splash shield back together by reversing the order in Step 6. Reconnect the battery. Make sure you put everything back exactly as you found it to ensure your Jeep Grand Cherokee works properly and fill the new reservoir with washer fluid.
