The Volkswagen Beetle's complex power mirror construction makes it a somewhat difficult replacement project. The process is the same for all model years and may require an experienced do-it-yourself repair person. The project only requires a few basic tools.

Instructions

Remove the Old Mirror

    1

Disconnect the negative battery cable before you take the front door trim panel off the Beetle door. Remove all screws and clips and carefully pry the panel from the door. Use a door trim tool purchased from an auto repair store.

    2

Detach the power mirror electrical wire connector located under the door panel.

    3

Take off the triangle interior cover and the insulation inside the interior cover. Remove three nuts from the power mirror.

    4

Pull off the outside rear view mirror, and guide the power wire through the hole in the door.

Install the New Mirror

    5

Replace the old mirror with the new one by first pushing the new wiring through the hole in the door.

    6

Install and tighten the three retaining nuts you took off when removing the old mirror.

    7

Connect the power mirror wiring to the connection located on the door panel. Return the insulation piece and then install the triangle interior cover.

    8

Put the front door trim panel back in place by securing all clips and tightening all screws.

    9

Connect the Volkswagen Beetle's battery cable so you have power again.
