The Hyundai Sonata's center console appears to be permanently attached to the dash; however, the console is actually made up of two parts: the floor console and the front-dash console. The floor console is the piece with the center-storage compartment and the two cup holders. If you want to replace the floor console, or make other modifications to the Sonata's interior, you can remove it with a few steps.

Instructions

    1

Loosen the nut on the Sonata's negative battery cable with the wrench, and then pull the cable away from the battery post to disconnect it.

    2

Grasp the gearshift knob firmly. Twist it counterclockwise to unscrew it from the gear shift post. Set it aside.

    3

Cover the tip of the flathead screwdriver with protective tape, or wrap it with a cloth. Pry up the gearshift trim panel and lift it up. On the back you'll find a harness. Unplug it. You'll now see two screws that secure the center-stack surround panels.

    4

Remove the two screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull off the center-stack surround panels and set them to the side.

    5

Engage the parking brake hand lever to bring it to the "Up" position. Gently pry off the panel surrounding it, and then guide the panel over the lever to remove it.

    6

Open the floor console lid. Remove the two bolts inside the compartment with the socket wrench. Examine the sides of the floor console. Find and remove the bolt on each side.

    7

Remove the two bolts from the floor console cup holder. Lift the floor console up. Unplug the wiring harness underneath it, and then move the console out of the Sonata.
