If you notice that your Chrysler Town and Country is leaving a trail of oil, it may be a sign that it's time to replace a worn out oil pan gasket. Fortunately, replacing the oil pan gasket in a Town and Country is a fairly easy job, even for a novice mechanic. Here's how to change the oil in the 2001 to 2007 model Town and Country.

Instructions

    1

Park the Chrysler Town and Country on a level surface, and set the parking brake. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

    2

Raise the front of the vehicle with jacks and support it safely on a jack stand. Crawl under the vehicle and locate the oil pan. Put a drain pan under the oil pan and use a socket wrench to remove the oil pan drain plug, located on the under side of the oil pan.

    3

Allow the oil to drain into the drain pan. When it's done draining, reattach the drain plug, along with a new drain plug gasket. Loosen the bolts on the oil pan with a socket wrench, and take the bolts off with your fingers so they don't drop in the oil pan. Carefully remove the oil pan.

    4

Wipe out the inside of the oil pan with a paper towel or a clean rag, and clean the mating surface with solvent or engine cleaner. Run a 1/8-inch bead of gasket sealant around the mating surface of the oil pan, and apply a new oil pan gasket.

    5

Replace the oil pan, and reattach the bolts with a torque wrench to 105 inch pounds.

    6

Remove the jack stand and fill the engine with clean oil. Chrysler Town & Country require about 4.5 quarts of oil.

    7

Pour the old oil into an empty milk carton and take it to a garage or a hazardous waste disposal facility.
