The anti-lock braking system (ABS) controller of the Mitsubishi 3000GT prevents the brakes from locking during an emergency stop. The ABS controller reduces the braking force to any wheel that is rotating significantly more slowly than the others. If the ABS warning light comes on, you may need to replace the ABS, although this does not necessarily make your vehicle unsafe to drive.

Instructions

    1

Determine which ABS controller your Mitsubishi 3000GT will need. You'll want to be sure the new controller is compatible with your make and model of 3000GT. All versions of the 3000GT have been equipped with ABS since its debut in 1990. The ABS controller is integrated into the hydraulic control unit and cannot be separated.

    2

Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Drain the brake fluid from the reservoir with a syringe and label the brake lines so you can attach them correctly later. Protect painted surfaces near the hydraulic control unit from brake fluid that may be spilled.

    3

Detach the brake lines from the hydraulic control unit with a socket wrench. Remove the electrical harness connector from the hydraulic control unit. Unfasten the bracket for the hydraulic control unit with a socket wrench and remove the hydraulic control unit from the vehicle.

    4

Install the hydraulic unit with ABS controller by reversing the removal procedure. Use a torque wrench to tighten the bracket bolts to 22 foot pounds. Use the labels you made earlier to ensure the brake lines are installed in their correct position.

    5

Complete the installation by refilling the brake system and bleed the air from it.
