How to Install a Tail Light on a Honda Civic 2001

Tail lights are an important safety feature on your Honda Civic, and you need to have good bulbs installed at all times. There are tail lights installed within both of the fenders and within the trunk lid on the 2001 model Civic. If you need to install a new bulb into one of the lights, you can do so without disconnecting the light housing. You will need to remove the old bulb before you can install the new one.

Instructions

    1

Open the trunk. Locate the bulb holders for the lights within the trunk lid, which can be seen in the holes within the inside of the trunk lid body.

    2

Locate the fender bulb holders by peeling back the trunk carpeting--remove the two screws located at the top corner of the trunk with a flat head screwdriver. Remove the third screw near the bottom of the trunk if you have trouble peeling back the carpet.

    3

Rotate the bulb holder behind the carpet counterclockwise and pull it out of the body. There are two bulbs in each fender and at each end of the trunk lid.

    4

Pull the bulb straight out of its socket to remove it from the bulb holder.

    5

Push the new bulb into the socket to install it. Wear gloves and don't touch the bulb glass with your bare skin.

    6

Install the bulb holder back into the car body by pushing it in and turning it clockwise.

    7

Screw the carpeting back in place after installing a bulb in the fender.
