An oil pump is a necessary tool for the survival of the engine. It keeps the engine components in the Saturn VUE lubricated. Without lubrication, an engine is destroyed. In most cases you won't need to replace an oil pump, but in some cases, such as an engine overhaul, you might want to.
Instructions
Remove the Oil Pump

Drain the engine oil and remove the negative battery cable and the air cleaner assembly on your Saturn VUE. Take the right front wheel off and remove the engine splash shield and accessory drive belt. Also, take out the crankshaft damper pulley and the belt tensioner.
2Install a solid engine support fixture then remove the right front engine mount and front cover bolts along with the 13 mm bolt under the water pump.
3Remove the front cover, oil pump cover plate, the drive rotor and driven rotor and the pressure relief valve.
4Clean the surrounding cables with water and old rags to avoid corrosion from salt and other road maintenance substances as well as dirt.
Install the New Oil Pump

Insert the new relief valve into the cover bore, coating it with clean engine oil. Torque the plug to 30 ft-lb.
6Pack the assembly where the oil pump is installed with petroleum jelly for priming. Install the drive and driven rotors into the pump. Make sure the chamfer is facing toward the front oil seal.
7Install the oil pump body cover with new bolts torqued to 53 in-lb. Put the front cover back on with a new oil seal and torque the outside and center bolts to 19 ft-lb. The lower enter bolt should be 89 in-lb.
8Remove the engine support fixture then put in the drive belt tensioner, torquing the bolts to 37 ft-lb. Install the crankshaft damper pulley and torque that bolt to 74 ft-lb.
9Place the accessory drive belt, the right front splash shield and wheel back in along with the air cleaner assembly.
10Reconnect the negative battery cable and fill the engine with fresh oil. Replace your oil filter then start your Saturn VUE and check for leaks in your work area.
