The Cadillac Escalade is a luxury SUV which was first introduced in 1999. The Escalde is an extremely popular SUV. The Cadillac Escalade features coil springs in the front and leaf springs in the rear. The smooth riding Escalde is a sophisticated fullsize SUV and as such only experienced mechanics should try to replace the springs on the Escalade.

Instructions

Replacing Coil Springs in the Cadillac Escalade

    1

Jack up the Escalade, block the tires with jack stands for safety before removing the following: engine protection shield, frame cross bar, tire and wheel assembly, shock absorber and front stabilizer shaft link.

    2

Use the transmission jack and associated attachments to release the pressure of the spring on the lower control arm of the Escalade's suspension.

    3

Remove or disconnect the lower control arm's pivot nuts and bolts. Do not force the bolts as they sometimes are stiff.

    4

Lower the transmission jack very carefully to release the Escalade's spring. This must be done with great care, but you also may need to move the lower control arm out of the way. This is the most dangerous part of the process.

    5

Install the new coil spring and insulator. Be sure to use bolts that have been tested at 5,000 lbs. of tensile strength.

    6

Compress the spring with the jack before replacing the nuts and bolts. Double check the suspension assembly before repeating the procedure on the other springs.

    7

Lower the Escalade after replacing all the springs. Tighten the lug nuts and other elements of the suspension before re-checking to make sure everything is as it should be.

Replacing Leaf Springs in the Cadillac Escalade

    8

Support the rear axle to relieve the pressure on the Escalade's rear leaf springs.

    9

Remove the old leaf springs before removing or disconnecting the U bolts, sensors, bracket bolts, leaf spring shackles, spring assembly and fuel tank, if necessary.

    10

Put together and attach the leaf spring bracket and assembly to the Escalade's frame.

    11

Tighten all the U bolts and brackets before re-installing the fuel tank and sensors if necessary.

    12

Take away the rear axle support before going to Section 1, Step 7--lowering the vehicle.
