How to Replace the Intake Manifold in a Cadillac Escalade

The 2002 to 2006 second generation Cadillac Escalade offers seven different engine sizes. The intake manifold on the 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L engines includes the throttle body, fuel injectors and fuel injection rails in the assembly. When removing the manifold, remove the assembly intact unless you plan to individually service the other components.

Instructions

Remove the Intake Manifold

Drain 1/4 to 1/2 of the engine coolant. Remove the coolant air bleed hose.

Disconnect the engine sight shield, the MAP sensor, knock sensor connector, the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose and valve, the EVAP solenoid, the EVAP bolt and isolator.

Pull the vacuum brake booster hose from the back of the manifold. Loosen and remove the manifold bolts. Remove the head gaskets from the manifold and discard them.

Use solvent to clean the intake manifold. Use compressed air to thoroughly dry the manifold.

Fine a straight edge across the head deck surface. Set a straight edge across two of the runner port openings.

Place a feeler gauge between the manifold and the straight edge. Replace the unit if the warpage exceeds 3mm over 200mm.

Install the Intake Manifold

Install the MAP sensor. Connect the EVAP solenoid, bolt and isolator. Use 89 inch pounds of torque to tighten the bolt.

Set the new intake manifold-to-cylinder head gaskets in place. Place the manifold in position.

Use a band of threadlock GM P/N 12345382 on the manifold bolts. Tighten the bolts to 44 inch pounds. Start with the center bolt along the edge away from the front of the vehicle. Tighten the opposite bolt next, then the one to the right of it.

Cross over and tighten the bolts, first to the left of the first bolt, then the bolt to its right. Continue in the side-to-side criss-cross pattern. Follow by tightening the bolts again in sequence to 89 inch pounds.

Reconnect the brake booster vacuum hose to the rear of the manifold. Attach the knock sensor connector.

Connect the air cleaner outlet duct. Fix the coolant air bleed hose to the throttle body. Install the engine sight shield.
