The Chevy Avalanche fuel pump is electric, so you should check its fuses and relays before inspecting it. If your vehicle still has difficulty getting fuel and your tank has fuel, you may need to clean or replace the fuel pump. The Chevy Avalanche comes in a variety of styles and trim levels and this can affect your choice of fuel pump.

Instructions

    1

Select the new fuel pump for your Chevy Avalanche. You will not only need to know the make and model, but also the engine size. Models made from 2001 to 2006 may have a 5.3 L or 8.1 L engine and models made after 2006 can have a 5.3 L or 8.1 L engine.

    2

Prepare your vehicle for fuel pump servicing. Drain the fuel tank and disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench.

    3

Relieve the fuel system pressure. Loosen the fuel filler cap and connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel pressure valve. Wrap a shop towel around the fitting and place the bleed hose into an approved container. Bleed the fuel pressure and remove the fuel tank.

    4

Disconnect the electrical connection from the fuel pump and turn the locking ring on top of the fuel tank counterclockwise to release the pump. Pull the fuel pump assembly out of the tank.

    5

Install the new fuel pump and secure it by turning the locking ring clockwise. Install the fuel tank and refill it. Attach the negative battery cable. Run the engine and check for leaking fuel.
