Bumper Repair Products

One of the most common repairs needed after a minor traffic accident involves a bent or scratched bumper. If you cannot afford to take your car to a body shop for repair, you may consider making a minor bumper repair on your own. There are several products on the market to help you cover a scratch or remove a dent from your bumper.

Bondo - Bumper Repair Kit

The Bondo brand, manufactured by 3M, can be used in a variety of ways. The Bondo Auto Body Filler Kit can be used to repair dents, scratches and rust holes. The kit includes the filler, hardener, metal body patch and spreader. Follow the enclosed instructions for an easy repair costing less than $20. Bondo also carries tools such as the double handled locking suction cup dent puller, which comes with an easy finish aerosol trigger, a pick and bump hammer, a sanding block and safety goggles. For under $20, you can also repair small rusted out metal holes using the Bondo-Glass Fiberglass Reinforced Filler. For a minor touch-up, under $10, Bondo offers the Black Flexible Part & Bumper Repair, which is compatible with all bumper, trim and paint parts.

The Ding King

The Ding King is a product that you may have seen on television, promoted by Billy Mays. It can be used to remove dents from the bumper for $19.95 plus shipping and handling. With the Ding King, simply remove everything from its packaging and apply the included glue to the dent puller and place it in the middle of the dent. Place the pulling bridge over the dent puller and screw on the special wing nut. Twist the wing nut to pull out the dent. Once the wing nut has pulled out the dent, remove the Ding King and the glue using the glue remover. Polish the car with the included soft cloth. The Ding King is designed to work on any model car, truck or SUV.

Lifetime Repair Products Bumper Repair Kit

The Lifetime Repair Products Bumper Repair Kit can be purchased online at the company's website for $9.99 plus shipping and handling. It can be used to repair scratches and dents on your bumper. The kit comes with seven inter-mixable repair compound colors. The directions for the repair kit are fairly easy. First, make sure the surface is clean and smooth. If you have a rough surface, simply sand it with a piece of medium grade sandpaper. Next, apply the repair compound and dry the surface. Continue applying the repair compound and drying the surface until the repaired area is at the same level as the undamaged portion. Apply the final layer of compound and cover it with the included grain paper. Press the paper down and tape it, leaving it on overnight. The next day remove the paper and wipe clean.
