Geo Metro spark plugs are deigned to last between 30,000 to 45,000 miles. For ideal car performance inspect a Geo Metro model's spark plugs every 15,000 miles. If the plugs' electrodes are black, the spark plugs need to be replaced.

Instructions

    1

Lift the hood and allow the engine to cool for 30 minutes.

    2

Find the spark plug wires located along the front of the engine. These are normally red wires that plug into the engine block.

    3

Use the wire pullers on the wire to remove it from the spark plug. Clamp the puller on the boot, or end, of the wire. Turn the wire in both directions until you hear a click. Pull on the wire to remove it.

    4

Place the socket over the spark plug and turn it counter-clockwise to loosen the plug from the well. Remove the socket and twist the plug until it releases.

    5

Brush out the well and the spark plug wire boot lightly to remove any debris that is lodged in the well or boot.

    6

Drip a few drop of anti-seize compound on the threads of the new spark plug and work the compound into the threads.

    7

Place the new spark plug into the well and tighten by hand. Add the socket and tighten the spark plug 1/4 turn. Replace the spark plug wire.

    8

Repeat Steps 2 through 7 for each remaining spark plug.
