Oil is essential for keeping your you Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicle engine running. In fact, experts recommend that you check your oil every time you purchase gasoline or at some other routine point so you don't have problems. Having too much oil can destroy your engine as well as having too little. The mechanics designed the dipstick so users can read it easily.

Instructions

    1

Park your Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicle on a flat place and wait a few minutes before opening the hood. You want to avoid waiting too long after the engine is shut off because the oil needs to be warm for accurate readings.

    2

Set your parking brake and pop your hood then look for the engine oil dipstick. It is near the back of the engine on the driver's side.

    3

Grasp the top of the handle and gently pull the Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicle dipstick out of its tube. Wipe it off with a rag or tissue to clean it, making sure no lint is left on the dipstick.

    4

Notice the "Safe" area on the dipstick. For the optimal running of your engine, you want the oil level to measure within this section.

    5

Slide the dipstick back into the tube and pull it right back out get a clear oil level reading. This time, check the oil level on the dipstick without wiping it off.

    6

Check that the oil level mark is within the "Safe" section of the dipstick. If it is over the marks, you need to drain some oil out; if it is at or below the marks, you need to add oil. If it is right on the bottom line of the "Safe" zone, adding 1 quart of oil brings it to the top line.
