How to Replace Your Turn Signal Relay in a Kia Spectra

To keep your Kia Spectra working at an optimum level and to save some money, replace minor auto parts when you're able. For example, the turn signal relay doesn't have a set life span for the product, but they do go out. When your turn signal stops working, it's usually a burned out bulb, but if it's not, the next item on the list to replace is the relay.

Peer underneath the steering wheel column and near the brake pedal to locate the relay panel. In most Kia Spectra's, it's actually on the steering column near the brake pedal. However, it can be on the left side foot well on the driver's side of the car, as well.

Use a screwdriver to remove the relay panel from the Kia Spectra. You need a Phillips head screwdriver to remove it successfully. Be careful during the removal as the panel is plastic and too much torque can strip the panel connections.

Check the diagram on the backside of the relay panel to locate the position of the turn signal relay. If there isn't a diagram, start at the top right hand corner and moving down, use trial and error to discover which one is the turn signal relay. Alternately, if you have an owner's manual, you can see if the relay is indicated in there.

Remove the old turn signal relay carefully and replace it with a new one. Make sure you don't damage any of the other fuses or relays in the box during the removal.

Switch on the turn signal to verify it works with the new relay. If it doesn't work, check that the relay is securely in place. Otherwise, if it works, replace the relay panel and you're finished.
