How to Replace the Wheel Speed Sensor in a Chevy Corvette

The anti-lock brake system, also known as ABS, senses the speed of each wheel and notes when one locks up, thus relieving the hydraulic pressure in that wheel to avoid a skid. The wheel speed sensor, attached to each wheel on your to 1995 Chevrolet Corvette, sends the signal to the ABS system that allows it to function correctly. A malfunctioning wheel speed sensor means that your ABS will likely fail, so it's important to replace that sensor immediately.

Park your Chevy Corvette on a level surface, activate the emergency brake and place blocks behind the back tires for safety. Disconnect the negative battery cable with a terminal puller.

Raise the vehicle on the side of the wheel speed sensor's location. Remove the wheel and tire assemblies.

Disconnect the sensor wiring harness connector from the ABS. Unclip and separate the connectors from the bracket.

Unscrew the bracket bolt and remove the bracket from the knuckle, if necessary.

Take note of the connector positions of the sensor wiring harness with grommets and remove them from the remaining brackets.

Unfasten the sensor retaining bolt and remove the sensor from the knuckle. Clean all of the access sealant from the sensor opening in the knuckle.

Position the o-ring as spacer in their appropriate locations on front wheel speed sensors before proceeding with the installation process.

Install the new sensor by reversing the removal process. Tighten the sensor retaining bolt to 86 inch pounds (10 Nm). If you removed the bracket, tighten the bolt to 86 inch pounds when you replace it.

Lower the wheel and reconnect the negative battery cable. Consult your owner's manual to perform an ABS system check and make sure everything is functioning properly.
