Replace the fuel filter in your Ford F-Series pickup every 30,000 to 40,000 miles to keep the fuel system in optimal condition. A clean fuel filter means clean fuel injectors and a clean fuel pressure regulator. Follow a few instructions to replace the fuel filter in Ford F-Series pickups with gasoline engines.

Instructions

    1

Relieve the pressure in the fuel system by removing the fuel pump relay, then starting the engine. Wait until the engine stalls, then crank it for about 5 seconds to make sure the pressure was released. Turn off the ignition.

    2

Disconnect the battery ground cable. Locate the fuel filter on the driver's side of your pickup, along the frame rail. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel filter using the Ford fuel line quick disconnect tool. Loosen the fuel filter clamp screw, then remove the filter.

    3

Put the new filter in place and reconnect the fuel lines. You should hear a click when reconnecting the fuel lines. Also, pull on the fuel lines to make sure they're secure. Then tighten the filter clamp screw.

    4

Reconnect the battery ground cable. Start your Ford pickup, check for leaks and fix any you find.
