The Chevy Avalanche is a sports utility truck with the 1500 and 2500 series. Replacing the springs in the Chevy Avalanche is complicated. Depending on the series, you may have to remove the engine protection shield, frame cross bar, tire and wheel assembly, shock absorber and front stabilizer shaft link. Only an experienced home mechanic should replace the springs in a Chevy Avalanche.

Instructions

    1

Jack up the Chevy Avalanche, block the wheels with jack stands and remove the wheels. The Avalanche is a heavy duty vehicle and special care must be taken when working on the truck on jacks.

    2

Remove the following parts from the Avalanche: engine protection shield, frame cross bar (25 series only), tire and wheel assembly, shock absorber, front stabilizer shaft link, and attach the J23028-15 retaining hook and tighten the wing nut.

    3

Attach the J23028-01 tool to the transmission jack, raise the jack until the notches of the tool line up with the J23028-15 and relieve the pressure on the spring from the lower control arms.

    4

Disconnect the lower control arm pivot bolt nuts, rear pivot bolt and front pivot bolt before lowering the transmission jack in order to remove the coil spring.

    5

Remove the coil spring and insulator before installing the new spring and insulator to the Avalanche's lower control arm.

    6

Raise the transmission jack in order to compress the coil before connecting the lower control arm pivot bolt nuts, rear pivot bolt and front pivot bolt. Before lowering the jack, remove the tools from the control arm.

    7

Replace the engine protection shield, frame cross bar (25 series only), tire and wheel assembly, shock absorber, front stabilizer shaft link, and remove the J23028-15 retaining hook and compressor. Lower the vehicle and perform a safety check.
