The Toyota Highlander is a midsized SUV. Its body is more car-like than sporty and it handles easier than the first Toyota SUVs that came on the market. The vehicle makes very little noise, has additional safety features and takes into consideration the difficulty of getting in and out for passengers. Toyota markets the Highlander as an oversized Camry wagon.

Instructions

    1

Review the owner's manual to see which fuse is for the fuel pump. You need to remove this fuse before you do any work to remove the fuel filter.

    2

Take the fuel tank off the Highlander. In the SUV, the fuel filter is inside the fuel tank. When the fuel line is disconnected, you will see the fuel filter attached to the line.

    3

Find two wrenches that fit snug on the fuel filter fittings. You will need two different sizes.

    4

Grip the fuel filter fittings with the two wrenches-one will stay stationary and the other you need to turn counterclockwise until the fitting comes lose.

    5

Turn the clamp screw around the old filter to release it and put a new fuel filter in its place.

    6

Adjust the fittings with new washers on both sides of the fuel line. Tighten the clamp around the new filter and insert the fuel pump fuse before you start your car.

    7

Address any issues with the fuel tank before you reattach it to the Highlander. Check for rust and cracks on the straps, clamps and lines.
