If you have a 2002 through 2004 model Pontiac Bonneville and it pulls to one side when you apply the brakes or if you come to a screeching halt when you apply the brake pedal then you need to perform the required maintenance. To fix this you need to replace the front disc brakes on your Pontiac Bonneville

Instructions

    1

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Check the master cylinder reservoir fluid level. If the fluid level is higher than midway using a syringe, turkey baster or similar tool, drain two thirds of the brake fluid from the master cylinder. If it is less than half full, no fluid needs to be removed from the master cylinder reservoir. Raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Remove the wheel assembly and tire.

    2

Tighten the clamp to bottom the caliper pistons in their bores. Use an 8-inch C-clamp placed on the caliper to compress the caliper bore enough to slide past the brake rotor. Remove the clamp. Remove the two caliper slide pin bolts. Lift the caliper from the anchor plate.

    3

Suspend the caliper from the frame using mechanics wire. Avoid allowing the caliper to dangle or hang from the brake line. If this occurs then the brake line will be damaged. Remove the C-clamp. Remove the brake pads and anti rattle clips from the anchor. Remove the brake pads from the caliper bracket.

    4

Inspect the rotor and caliper pin bolts to ensure that there is no damage. If so replace it at this time. Using a thin coat of Niglube grease, lubricate the front break caliper pin bolts. Install the brake pads onto the brake caliper bracket.

    5

Remove the mechanic's wire and put the break caliper back into position on the brake caliper bracket. Insert the lower brake caliper pin and using a torque wrench, torque the pin bolt to 63 foot/pounds. Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly. Lower the vehicle, reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery.

    6

Add brake fluid and pump the brakes 3 to 4 times applying the brake pedal two thirds of the way down each time. Test drive the vehicle at slow to moderate speeds to ensure that the maintenance was performed correctly.
