The Ford Taurus is one of Ford's most successful models. The Taurus has a straightforward suspension and replacing the springs on the Taurus does not require any special tools. The Ford Taurus has been in production for over 20 years and springs and other suspension parts are readily available. The innovative Taurus design offers easy access to the suspension and springs.

Instructions

    1

Jack up the Taurus and block the wheels with jack stands. Get your tools ready and keep the workspace clear.

    2

Take the strut off the Taurus and apply the compressor to the spring until it can be worked free from the seat. This is the most dangerous part of the repair. The spring carries a lot of energy and it must be released slowly.

    3

Take the spring and compressor off the Taurus and carefully remove the compressor from the old spring. The Taurus does not require factory specified parts.

    4

Attach the compressor to the new spring before installing the new spring onto the strut. Remember to exercise caution when removing the compressor from the new spring.

    5

Install the upper and lower washers along with the lower mounting bracket and a new upper nut.

    6

Tighten the nut to specifications, but do not over tighten the nut. Put the strut assembly back onto the Taurus.

    7

Lower the Taurus and perform a maintenance check to make sure the parts have all been returned to their original position.
