The Ford F-Series covers a variety of truck models including the F-150, F-250, F-350 and F-450. The F-150 is by far the best selling of these. These steps apply to the 1997 to 2008 model years of the Ford F-150, and function as general guidance for other model years.

Instructions

    1

Lubricate the front and rear axles of your Ford F-150 with Motorcraft SAE 75W90 front axle lubricant and Motorcraft SAE 75W140 synthetic rear axle lubricant, respectively.

    2

Maintain your truck's braking power with Ford High Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid.

    3

Mix equal parts clean and drinkable, distilled, or otherwise demineralized water, with Ford Premium Cooling System Fluid to fill your Ford F-150's cooling system.

    4

Top off both your power steering fluid and transfer case fluid with Motorcraft MERCON automatic transmission fluid as necessary.

    5

Refill your transmission fluid as necessary. For a 5-speed manual transmission or the automatic transmission in the E4OD 4x2 or E4OD 4x4 configuration, use Motorcraft MERCON automatic transmission fluid. For an automatic transmission in the 4R70W configuration, use Motorcraft MERCON V automatic transmission fluid.
