When you need to do any work on the serpentine belts in your vehicle, it serves you well to know how the pulleys are configured for the serpentine belts. Fortunately, this information is provided for you beneath the hood of your vehicle.

Instructions

    1

Look at the diagram of the pulley configuration for serpentine belts that's affixed to the inside of the hood in the form of a diagram.

    2

Locate the two pulleys: the first is in the front, and the second is toward the back. The front belt controls the power steering and air conditioning. The rear pulley controls the water pump and the alternator.

    3

Pay attention to the bolts that appear on the pulley configuration for the serpentine belts diagram. The bolt associated with the rear pulley is right hand threaded, and the bolt for the front pulley is left hand threaded.

    4

Remember that one bolt is threaded in an opposite manner. This can save you from breaking the head of the bolt off as you attempt to fix the pulley which is part of the pulley configuration for serpentine belts.
