Jeep Wrangler fenders are exposed to a significant amount of sunlight due to the Jeep's basic design. As a result, you can expect the paint on your Wrangler's fenders to fade over time. Fortunately, you can repair mildly faded Jeep fenders at home using specially formulated automotive polish and plenty of elbow grease.

Instructions

    1

Wash the Jeep's fenders thoroughly, taking extra time to remove all dirt and grime from the surface of the paint. Open the hood and clean the area of the fender overlapped by the hood. The paint in this area will probably not be faded because it is protected by the hood, but you do not want dirt or grime to run from this area and contaminate the area of paint you are restoring.

    2

Apply the abrasive automotive polish to the terrycloth or provided applicator in the method recommended by the product's instructions. You are using an abrasive polish to lightly remove the top layer of the paint and restore the original color of your fenders. Avoid getting wax on the lights installed on the Jeep's fenders.

    3

Gently rub the polish onto the fenders, following the instructions provided by the polish you purchased. Some of these polishes call for using water along with the polish and some do not. Rub through the top layer of the paint to bring forward a good shine, so prepare to spend a lot of time rubbing the paint. You can use a buffing machine; however, you risk damaging the fender's paint if you remove too much paint, which is difficult to do by hand but can happen much more easily when using a buffing machine.

    4

Rinse the Jeep with warm water and dry it with a soft cloth. If the Wrangler's fender paint is not shiny, you may not have removed enough paint and should begin the process again.

    5

Apply a non-abrasive wax to the newly refinished paint. The wax will offer paint protection against the elements and slow down fading.
