If your Hyundai 2001 Sonata comes to a screeching halt when you stop or if it pulls to one side when you apply the brakes then it needs immediate attention. If not addressed, this may result in costly and possibly dangerous problems at a later time. The way to address this is to replace the front disc brakes on your Hyundai Sonata.

Instructions

    1

Select a flat location to perform this maintenance. Park the Hyundai Sonata and put the emergency brake on. Place put wedges behind the wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Drain two thirds of the brake fluid from the master cylinder using a syringe, turkey baster or similar tool. Raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands.

    2

Remove the wheel and the tire assemblies. Remove the brake tube from the brake hose. Remove the brake hose clip. Remove the brake hose from the strut and the brake line from the caliper. Locate and remove the small retaining pin from the lower part of the caliper.

    3

Move the caliper until it allows access to the rotor and pads. Slide the caliper inboard. Once the locating pin disengages from the groove in the caliper. Pull the caliper, separating it from the locating pin.

    4

Using white silicone compound, lubricate the locating pin bore. Mount the caliper onto the locating pin. Align the small retaining pins by lowering the caliper. Install a new retaining pin into the lower part of the caliper. Using a torque wrench tighten the pin.

    5

Reinstall the brake line to the caliper. Bleed the brakes. Reconnect the brake hose to the strut. Reconnect the brake hose clip. Reconnect the brake tube to the brake hose. Reinstall the front wheels.

    6

Add brake fluid to the master cylinder. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery. Start the engine and pump the brakes 3 to 4 times to seat the brake pads. Test drive the Sonata at slow to moderate speeds to ensure that the maintenance was performed correctly.
