Built for performance, the Ford Mustang offers its owner the opportunity to have a muscle car with enough room to carry a few friends. This muscle car needs to be maintained properly to ensure that it is kept up. Replacing the valve cover gasket is one way to upkeep the maintenance.

Instructions

    1

    Ensure that the engine is cool. This can be accomplished by parking the car lifting the hood and allowing it to sit idle for short period of time.

    Disconnect the battery cables, promote the ignition coil clubbers on the left side and remove ignition coil wires and spark plug wires. Remove the PCV valve, the valve cover bolts and the valve cover.

    Disconnect the nation coil wires on the right side. Disconnect all hoses and electrical plugs. Remove the VCT oil solenoid bolt and remove oil solenoid and its plug.

    Remove both the valve cover and the old gasket. Clean the gasket seating area with automotive engine cleaner.

    Place the new gasket in the gasket seating area. Replace the valve cover and tighten the bolts. Do not over tighten the bolts or the new gasket will not fit into the gasket seating area properly.

    Placed the VCT oil solenoid back into its location and reconnect it to its plug. Reconnect all hoses and electrical plugs. Reconnect the ignition coil wires on the right side. Replace the valve cover bolts in the valve cover, the PCV valve, ignition coil wire, spark plug wires and ignition call covers on the left side. Reconnect the battery cables.

    Fill the oil container on the Mustang and allow the car to run idle. You have completed the maintenance of replacing the valve cover gasket.
