Toyota has been producing the Corolla for over a decade. Keep your Corolla running like new whether it is old or new by doing a few checks on the car regularly. Check the battery cables for corrosion and tightness once a month to make sure everything is in working order.

Instructions

    1

Look for visual signs of corrosion on the battery of your Corolla. This tends to show up as a white or yellow powder on or around the battery.

    2

Check the battery cables in your Corolla for corrosion by grasping the cables with your hands. Bend the cables lightly, and if there is a crunching sensation, it is a sign of corrosion and should be investigated further.

    3

Cut an opening in the plastic with a knife or razor, and look inside for white or yellow powder or a green tint to the copper wires. These are both indications that there is corrosion under the plastic.

    4

Replace the battery cables yourself, or have a professional do this, if there is any sign of corrosion in the wires after you check them.

    5

Test the tightness of your battery cables by grasping the ports with your hand. Try to move or twist the ports. If there is any movement, tighten the cables with a wrench by turning the bolts slowly to the right.
