The Geo Metro fuel pump is electric so you should check its fuses and relays before inspecting the fuel pump. If your vehicle still has difficulty getting fuel and your tank has fuel, you may need to clean or replace the fuel pump. Select the new fuel pump for your Geo Metro. You will not only need to know the make and model, but also the engine size. The Geo Metro has 1.0 L, 1.0 L turbocharged and 1.3 L engines.
2Prepare your vehicle for fuel pump service by positioning your vehicle on a hoist. Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Drain the fuel tank and raise your vehicle so that you can remove the fuel tank.
3Disconnect the fuel return clamp, fuel feed hose and fuel return hose from the fuel pump. Remove the mounting screws from the fuel pump and motor assembly with a socket wrench and remove the gasket. Disconnect the connectors for the fuel pump motor and separate the motor from the rest of the fuel pump assembly.
4Install the new fuel pump using the items included in the kit and be sure to replace the gasket.
5Complete the installation by reversing the removal procedure. Start the engine and check for leaks.
