How to Replace Your Turn Signal Relay in a Mercury Villager

When most people think about car repair and replacement, they think of the larger issues of the engine and coolant system and forget about the smaller problems. However, there are some simple tasks you can do yourself, like replacing the turn signal relay. Mechanics charge by the hour and not by the minute, which is how long it will take to perform this replacement in your Mercury Villager.

Find the relay panel on the Mercury Villager, which provides access to the turn signal relay. This panel is either above or behind the kick panel to the left of the steering column.

Use a screwdriver to remove the relay panel. Be careful with this panel, as it's plastic and you could damage it during this removal.

Look on the underside of the relay panel for a diagram that tells you where to locate the turn signal relay. If the diagram isn't present, see the Resources section below to view a turn signal relay for the Mercury Villager.

Remove the defective turn signal relay and replace it with the new relay. This requires no special tools and you should be able to simply pull out the old one and pop in the new one. However, be gentle as you can damage the other parts on both removal and replacement of the turn signal relay.

Check to see if the turn signal works properly after the replacement. If not, verify that you seated the relay securely. Conversely, put the relay panel back into place, if the turn signal is operating correctly.
