How to Replace an Oil Pump in a Kia Spectra

You car's oil pump keeps the engine components in the Kia Spectra lubricated. Without lubrication, the engine will break down and cease functioning. These pumps are long-lived, but you may have to replace one, especially if you're overhauling the engine.

Drive your Kia Spectra up onto ramps or lifts. Brace the front wheels so they don't roll if you employ jacks. Set the emergency break.

Drain the engine oil and disconnect the negative battery cable. Take out the following components in order: the drive belt, the timing belt and the alternator. Note the position of each component so you can return them to the right spots. Push the air conditioning compressor and bracket aside so you have room to work (but don't disconnect the refrigerant lines). Remove the timing belt pulley and the oil strainer.

Remove the oil pump. Clean the surrounding cables with water and cloths.

Insert the new pump in the same position as the old one. Torque the bolt according to manual specifications.

Reinsert the components in reverse order and add fresh oil. Start the Kia Spectra and check for leaks. Drive your car off the lifts if you don't find any.
