Driving with signal lights that don't work properly can be asking for trouble. Not only is it unsafe, but you may find yourself paying for an expensive traffic ticket. If your signal light is burned out, you can save money by replacing it yourself. Here's how to change the rear signal light in a 1995 to 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Instructions

    1

Purchase a replacement bulb at an auto parts store. Be sure to note the year and model of your Mitsubishi Eclipse. This information is crucial in order to get the correct replacement bulb.

    2

Disconnect the negative battery cable before proceeding.

    3

Open the trunk and locate the rear compartment hatch. There will be a hatch on each side of the vehicle, housing the lighting assemblies. Remove the hatch and the inner trim panels that house the rear signal lights.

    4

Turn the burned out bulb until it unlocks and remove it from the socket.

    5

Wipe the socket out with a clean shop rag. If the socket has excessive corrosion, it's a good opportunity to replace the socket.

    6

Install the replacement bulb and replace the inner trim panels and the rear compartment hatch.

    7

Reconnect the negative battery cable. Then start the ignition and check to be sure the new turn signal functions correctly.
