The Chrysler Sebring has undergone extensive redesign. Chrysler introduced the Sebring as a coupe, then convertible, and in 2001 the Sebring line included the popular sedan model. Although the Chrysler Sebring comes in various makes, replacing the Sebring's springs is fundamentally the same procedure. Replacing the front and rear springs in the Chrysler Sebring require different procedures.

Instructions

Replacing the Front Springs on the Chrysler Sebring

    1

Raise the Chrysler Sebring, block the wheels with jack stands before removing the strut/shock unit and placing it into a compressor.

    2

Clamp down the spring, rotate the ball joint before compressing the spring in order to remove all the tension. This is the most dangerous part of the procedure. Double check the clamps on the spring and exercise caution when releasing the pressure.

    3

Remove the retaining nut and washer, before detaching the clamp, strut/shock unit and taking the Sebring's spring out of the compressor.

    4

Install the upper and lower isolators, bushings and mounting brackets while sliding the new spring onto the compressor.

    5

Install the control arm ball joint before compressing the spring and installing the elements of the strut/shock assembly around the spring.

    6

Check all bolts, nuts and connections before releasing the tension from the compressor slowly. Reinstall everything in the vehicle.

    7

Check and re-check the strut/shock assembly before lowering the vehicle. Examine the suspension system and any elements which were removed or set aside while replacing the springs on the Chevy Sebring.

Replacing the Rear Springs on Chrysler Sebring

    8

Remove the rear shock assembly from the vehicle and install it in the compressor.

    9

Remove the following from the shock assembly: nut, washer, upper bushings, bracket, pad, collar, cup, bump rubber and dust cover. Finally, remove the coil spring from the assembly. This is the most dangerous part of the procedure. Be extra careful when releasing the pressure from the Sebring's springs.

    10

Install the new spring and return the shock assembly to the compressor before reinstalling all the removed components. Check for wear on each component before reinstalling.

    11

Torque the jam nut to the specified level of foot-pounds of pressure.

    12

Remove the assembly from the compressor and reinstall on the vehicle. Follow Step 7, Section 1.
