The Acura Integra has a fuel injector that mixes fuel with air. This technology almost completely replaced carburetors in the late 1980s and its programmable firmware allows the same hardware to be used with different fuels. A fuel injector is only a nozzle and a valve; it still requires a pump to inject the fuel into the engine.

Instructions

    1

Determine which fuel injector your Acura Integra will need. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size. Models made from 1985 to 1988 have a 1.6 L engine, 1989 to 1993 models may have a 1.7 or 1.8 L engine and models made after 1993 will have a 1.8 L engine.

    2

Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench and relieve the fuel system pressure. Remove the intake manifold cover (if present) with a socket wrench and detach the electrical connectors for the fuel injector. Remove the quick-connect fittings so you can detach the fuel send line from the fuel rail and the fuel return line from the fuel pressure regulator.

    3

Detach the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator. Unfasten the mounting nuts for the fuel rail with a socket wrench and remove the fuel rail. Release the fuel injector retaining clip and pull the fuel injector up while gently rocking it from side to side. Remove the O-rings and discard them.

    4

Install the new fuel injector by reversing the removal procedure. Clean the new O-rings with a small amount of clean engine oil before you install them. Use a torque wrench to tighten the fuel rail mounting nuts 16 ft. lbs. Torque the fasteners on the intake manifold cover to 108 in. lbs.

    5

Complete the installation by allowing the engine to idle for 2 minutes before turning it off and checking for leaks or other problems.
