Whether you haul construction equipment or sports gear in your Toyota Tundra, you are bound to put a lot of miles on it. Because of this you need to make sure that you keep the maintenance up on your 2001 through 2005 Toyota Tundra. One way to do this is to replace the valve cover gasket.

Instructions

    1

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Locate and remove the battery clamp cover, the throttle body cover and the air cleaner and intake air connector assembly.

    2

Locate and remove the ignition coils, the nine bolts, seal washers and the right cylinder head cover. Remove the oil dipstick for the transmission.

    3

Locate and disconnect the PCV hose and the engine wire clamp from the wire bracket on the cylinder head cover. Remove the nine bolts, nine seal washers and the left cylinder head cover. Remove the nine bolts, nine seal washers and the left cylinder head cover.

    4

Remove the old valve cover gasket. Clean the valve cover gasket with a rag and automotive engine cleaner. Place the new gasket into place. Place the valve cover back into place. To put the engine parts back, reverse the steps used to remove the parts initially.

    5

Place oil in the car. Start the car and let the car run idle for 10 to 15 minutes allowing the oil to move to the top of the engine, lubricating the engine parts as it does.
