For owners of the two-door 1998 to 2002 and the four-door 1999 to 2002 Honda Accord, driver's seats may feel loose. Luckily, there are simple repairs that can be done to correct this problem. With the help of some shims and some elbow grease, you can re-tighten the driver's seat.

Instructions

    1

Verify that you have a problem. Put your seat in the midpoint position by using the horizontal switch located on the side of the seat. Adjust the seat with the front and back ends of the switch. Lie back into the seat and shift your weight from side to side. If the seat moves with your motions, continue to the next step.

    2

Order Shims. Indicate Part Number 81599-S84-999 and H/C 7325301. A total of eight shims are needed.

    3

Position the seat's bottom so that it's fully vertical. Move the seat forward as much as you can.

    4

Loosen the four inboard T-30 bolts located at the rear of the seat with a few turns.

    5

Install shims where you see clearance in the linkage. You may install up to four shims per side on one or both sides of the seat base linkage. Move the seat back and forth to help you determine if you've installed enough shims.

    6

Torque the Torx bolts to Nm or 7.4 foot pounds when you're done.

    7

Reposition the seat into the midnight position. Repeat the test for looseness to determine if you've solved the problem.
