Produced only in model years 1999 through 2004, the Oldsmobile Alero was Oldsmobile's final compact car offering as well as the final vehicle produced in the line. Most models used a 4-cylinder engine, but there was an optional V6. This guide will address all model years of the Oldsmobile Alero.

Instructions

    1

Use SAE 5W-30 oil, which is the best oil grade. Although 10W-30 is acceptable if temperatures in your area aren't expected to fall below 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

    2

Maintain both automatic and manual transaxles with DEXRON-III automatic transmission fluid.

    3

Fill your brake fluid reservoir with Delco Supreme 11 brake fluid, GM part number 12377967, or an equivalent DOT-3 brake fluid.

    4

Run a 50-50 mix of Halvoline or Goodwrench DEX-COOL coolant with clean, drinkable water to keep your engine cool. In extreme cold temperatures, you may use up to 70 percent coolant to 30 percent water, but using pure coolant isn't recommended. Using coolant other than DEX-COOL may cause premature corrosion in engine components.

    5

Make sure your power steering fluid is GM power steering fluid, part number 1052884 for one pint or 1050017 for one quart, or equivalent.

    6

Keep your brakes working well with Delco Supreme 11 brake fluid, GM part number 12377967, or any DOT-3 equivalent.
