The oil pump is an essential piece of equipment that keeps your Honda CR-V running. It lubricates the engine by keeping the oil circulating. Without this lubrication, the engine wouldn't run. An oil pump is usually located in the oil pan. If you want to replace the pump, roll up your sleeves and get ready for some dirty work.

Instructions

    1

Drive your Honda CR-V up onto ramps or lifts. Brace the front wheels so they don't roll if you use a jack. Set the emergency break so the car doesn't roll.

    2

Drain your engine oil and disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the accessory drive belts, the front cover and the timing belt.

    3

Take out the crankshaft timing sprocket, the oil pan, the oil pump pickup tube and the oil pump. Clean the surrounding cables with water and rags.

    4

Put liquid gasket on the bolt hole threads and the oil pump. Install the new oil pump. Tighten the 8-mm bolts to 17 ft-lb and the 6-mm bolts to 86 in-lb.

    5

Insert the oil pump pickup tube and tighten the fasteners to 86 in-lb. Install the oil pan, crankshaft timing sprocket and the timing belt.

    6

Reinstall the front cover and accessory drive belts. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Add fresh engine oil. Turn on the car and check for leaks around the replaced parts. Drive your Honda CR-V off the lifts if there are no leaks.
