Replace the heater hose in your Toyota Camry if it cracks, becomes stiff or turns mushy. Any inconsistency in the feel and strength of the hose may cause leaks and interfere with the heating in the interior of the Camry. Heater hoses can be replaced easily even by an automotive novice. Here's what you need to do.

Instructions

    1

Locate and check the old heater hose in the Toyota Camry. You will find it in the engine compartment connected to the heater core. Check it for fraying, oil damage or other signs of wear and tear. You need to replace a soft hose immediately.

    2

Place a drain pan under the radiator petcock fitting near the bottom of the radiator to empty the system of its coolant and to catch coolant spills. Open the petcock fitting near the bottom of the radiator to drain the coolant. Safely dispose of the toxic coolant.

    3

Adjust the pan or bucket underneath the radiator. Then remove the heater hose clamps using pliers or a screwdriver. Pull or turn the Camry heater hose to loosen it and take it out of the engine compartment.

    4

Clean the fittings with a multipurpose cleaner and then apply gasket sealer to prep the new heater hose for a tight fit. Put sealer just on the fitting as this will prevent clogging.

    5

Attach the new heater hose first and then fit the clamps over it. Make sure you properly position the ends of the hose where they meet the clamps.

    6

Pour coolant into the coolant reservoir through the radiator cap and then check the engine and look for leaks. Search for leaks near the heater gasket and clamp attachments. A properly fitted hose will connect without leaks.
