The 2000 Impala's headlight assemblies store not only the headlights, but also the parking lights and turn signal lights. You can remove these assemblies from the vehicle and replace them with new ones if they are damaged. A common problem with headlight assemblies is a broken seal, which can let moisture accumulate inside. This can repeatedly foul-out bulbs. When replacing the headlight assemblies, you can either switch over the old bulbs or simply install new bulbs into the new assembly.

Instructions

    1

Turn off the Impala's engine. Open the hood. Start with the headlight assembly you want to remove first. Find the two fasteners on top of the assembly. There is one fastener on each end of each headlight assembly.

    2

Pull up the fasteners with your pliers to remove them. Set the fasteners aside. Slide the headlight assembly out. Disconnect the electrical harness from the back. Bring the headlight assembly to a workbench or table, along with its replacement.

    3

Twist the three dust covers on the back of the old headlight assembly. You'll now see the bulbs. Turn the bulbs counterclockwise to remove them. Unplug each of the bulbs from the built-in connector.

    4

Twist the three dust covers on the back of the new headlight assembly to access the bulb mounting ports. Insert the three bulbs into their appropriate mounts. Turn them clockwise to secure them. Plug the built-in connectors into the backs of the bulbs.

    5

Twist the three dust covers back onto the new headlight assembly. Plug the Impala's electrical harness into the back of the new assembly. Push the assembly into the headlight assembly mount. Insert the two fasteners and push them down firmly to secure the assembly.

    6

Repeat the entire process for the other headlight assembly, if needed.
