The C3 Corvette was built from 1978 to 1982, and was a popular vehicle for Chevrolet. Over time, the door springs in these cars tend to sag, causing the doors to droop a bit when opened. When that happens, it can become difficult to open and close the doors, and cause unsightly gaps in the process. Fixing this process requires the use of some specialty tools, as the spring can be difficult to remove. But once it's done, the doors will open smoothly again.

Instructions

    1

Open the door all the way. Place the wood block on top of the jack pad and lift up the jack until the block just contacts the bottom corner of the open door so that it can support the weight.

    2

Locate the hinge spring in the corner of the jam. Use the door hinge installation tool to remove the old spring from the door.

    3

Hold the replacement door spring across the tall vertical part of the middle of the spring. Set the top of the spring into the top of the hinge. Use the hinge spring installation tool to pivot the spring into the lower mount, using the leverage of the tool.

    4

Lower the jack off of the door so it can support its own weight. Shut the door and check to make sure the door gaps are correct.
