How to Replace the Door Hinge on a Chevy Pickup

Door hinges become worn due to the constant opening and closing of the door. The hinges not only allow the door to be opened, they also keep the door in place and in line with the vehicle. If a hinge wears out it allows the door to sag, making the door harder to close. Lubricating door hinges every two or three months will help keep them working for many years. Door hinge rebuild kits are available at auto parts stores.

Instructions

    1

Open the door of the truck, allowing it to open as far as possible. Use the marker to outline the hinge on the door. This will help in placing the new hinge in the correct spot so it won't require adjustments.

    2

Place the floor jack under the door. Raise the jack until it touches the bottom of the door. Allow the door to rest on the jack.

    3

Use the 9/16-inch wrench to remove the bolts that secure the hinge to the door.

    4

Remove the bolts that secure the hinge to the cab frame of the truck. The hinge will drop off.

    5

Position the new hinge on the cab of the truck and install the bolts. Place the hinge inside the outline you drew on the cab and door. Tighten the bolts in place.

    6

Lower the jack and close the door of the truck.
