The fuel filter in your Oldsmobile Alero prevents dirt and sediment from entering the fuel system. Keeping the fuel system clean is important, as even small pieces of debris could clog an injector and cause serious problems with engine performance. Follow the instructions below to replace the fuel filter in your Oldsmobile in less than 45 minutes.

Instructions

    1

Detach the negative cable on the battery. Let the pressure out of the fuel system by first loosening the cap on the fuel tank. Connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel pressure test port connection and wrap a shop towel around it to prevent any fuel spills.

    2

Install the bleed hose into a container, and then open the valve so you can bleed the fuel system pressure. Drain any fuel in the gauge into the container as well.

    3

Use a backup wrench to disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter. Compress the tabs and pull outward on the fuel line to disconnect the quick-connect fitting from the fuel filter.

    4

Remove the fuel filter from the mounting bracket and install the new filter in its place. Connect the fuel line by using a backup wrench. Tighten the fitting to 20 ft-lbs. Connect the quick connect fitting to the fuel filter.

    5

Connect the negative battery cable. Turn on the engine of your Oldsmobile Alero to check for leaks, and make repairs as necessary.
