The Chrysler Town and Country minivan is one of Chrysler's most popular minivans. The luxurious Town and Country offers buyers a wide range of options. Putting new springs in the Town and Country is relatively straightforward, but only an experienced mechanic should consider doing the job. Adding new springs can give the suspension in an old Town and Country a new van feel.

Instructions

Replace the Front Springs

    Jack up the Town & Country and block the wheels with jack stands before removing the strut assembly from the Town and Country.

    Use the spring compressor to hold the strut assembly while removing or disconnecting the following: upper strut mount, pivot bearing, upper seat of the spring, bumper and dust shield and lower spring isolator in order to slip off the spring. Taking the coil off the assembly requires a great deal of care because the large amount of energy in the spring.

    Slide the new spring onto the assembly. The spring should slip right on.

    Reinstall or connect the bumper and dust shield, lower spring isolator, pivot bearing, upper seat of the spring, spring and upper strut mount. Torque the nut on the piston rod.

    Take the Town and Country's strut assembly off the spring compressor.

    Attach the strut assembly to the Town and Country and reattach any parts that were removed.

    Lower the Town and Country and remove the jack stands. Make certain everything is reattached and restored to the original positions.

Replace the Rear Springs

    Support the Town and Country at the frame rail with jack stands and support the axle with a jack.

    Remove or disconnect the shock absorber, axle plate from the axle and lower the axle so that the leaf spring can be removed.

    Remove or disconnect the front spring mount, rear spring shackle plate, and leaf spring from the suspension of the Town and Country.

    Install the new leaf springs in the Town and Country, before reinstalling the removed parts, and torquing the bolts to reconnect.

    Follow Step 7 in Section 1.
